Admissions
When can I apply?
Applications for the January 2027 intake are open until 15 December 2026. Apply online at apply.cuofssd.org: create an account, verify your email, complete the ten short sections and upload your documents.
Can I hand in a paper form?
No. All applications are made online through the Applicant Portal. Your progress is saved as you go, and you can follow your admission there.
How much is the application fee?
The Applicant Portal shows the current non-refundable application fee: SSP 30,000 for the January 2027 intake.
What grades do I need?
Bachelor’s degrees: SSSC or Sudan School Certificate of at least 60% (or two principal passes in Uganda, or C+ from Kenya, Ethiopia and elsewhere). Diplomas: SSSC of at least 50% or the equivalent.
I studied outside South Sudan. What do I need?
Foreign certificates must be certified by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and by the South Sudan embassy in the country where you studied.
Do I need reference letters?
Yes. Every applicant submits two letters: one from a senior teacher and one from a respected community figure, such as your parish priest.
Can I choose more than one programme?
Yes. Rank your first, second and third choices in the application. The Admissions Committee may offer you a place in one of your lower choices.
My English is not strong. Can I still join?
Yes. Applicants who are not yet proficient in English take a one-month intensive English course, with an exam, before the introductory year.
Can I transfer from another university?
Yes, if you have completed at least one year with satisfactory progress at a recognised university. Bring authenticated records, two references and an endorsement letter from your previous Registrar.
I have a diploma. Can I upgrade to a degree?
Diploma holders with a Credit or Distinction may be admitted to Year 2 of a related bachelor’s degree. No exemptions are given for earlier courses.
Fees and payment
How much is tuition?
Tuition is charged per semester and may change each year. Ask the Finance Office for the current amount for your programme.
How do I pay?
Pay into the University account at Cooperative Bank (Kololo, Juba) or KCB (Wau) and give the deposit slip to the Finance Office for an official receipt. Your fee statement is always up to date in the Student Portal.
Can I pay in instalments?
Yes: the full year in advance, each semester in advance, or four structured instalments.
Are there scholarships?
The University does not offer financial aid at present. Students find their own sponsors; you can upload a sponsorship letter with your online application.

Where do I get help as a student?
Open a helpdesk request in the Student Portal at student.cuofssd.org. Requests go straight to the right office, and you can follow the reply there.
Can I get help on WhatsApp?
Yes. Use the green WhatsApp button at the bottom of any page, pick a topic and send the ready-made message. For anything about your own records, a helpdesk request in the Student Portal is faster because it goes straight to the right office.
How do I activate my Student Portal account?
Use your admission, registration or student number and your date of birth, then create a password. You only do this once.
Where can I see my results and fee statement?
In the Student Portal: results, fee statement, semester registration, timetable and documents are all in one place.
I forgot my portal password.
Use “Forgot password?” on the portal with your number, date of birth and the email on your record. If there is no email on your record, the Registry office can reset your access.
Studies and exams
What is the introductory year?
Every first-year student takes common courses in study skills, logic, English, mathematics, computing, accounting, social analysis and ethics. Results in this year decide promotion to Year 2.
What is the pass mark?
40%. You must pass both the coursework and the end-of-semester exam in each course.
What attendance is required?
At least 80% of classes. Missing more than 20% bars you from the exam unless your Head of Department approves in writing.
What if I fail a course?
You sit a supplementary exam at the start of the next semester. Failing several courses can lead to repeating a semester or discontinuation, as set out in the Senate regulations.
Can my exam be re-marked?
Yes. Apply to your Head of Department within two weeks of the results, with the remark fee.
