On June 25 2026, the EU-funded project “Enhancing higher education e-learning structures and modules in conflict regions of East Africa (Kenya, Sudan, and South Sudan)” started a training on “online teaching” for the lecturers of the Catholic University of South Sudan.
A total of 23 academic staff members participated in the opening session. While most attended in person at the Juba Campus, Fr. Alan Neville joined the training online from the Rumbek Campus. The Vice Chancellor, Rev. Br. Dr. Bruno Amori Dada, introduced the session stressing the importance of a student-centred approach focused on learning outcomes that are measurable and achievable by learners at a specific period. He underlined that lecturers should always construct the learning outcomes using active verbs, as in Bloom’s taxonomy of educational objectives.
From the University of Nicosia, Prof. Kyriakos E. Georgiou connected online to further develop the specific traits of online classes, which are organised in modules for synchronous and asynchronous interactivity. One hour was devoted to practical engagement with Moodle, the Learning Management System (LMS) adopted by the project.
The training will continue online until mid-July, with five more sessions still hosted in the Computer Lab of the Campus, so as to enable extensive hands-on activities.
